JoME Generates Global Buzz!
The January 2016 issue of the Journal of Media Education is generating significant interest among members of the media and tech industries worldwide due in large part to an article on the use of digital devices in the classroom.
A study by author Barney McCoy, an associate professor in the College of Journalism and Mass Communications at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, shows that students spend nearly twenty percent of their time in class distracted by the use of their personal digital devices. This is a cause for concern for both parents and teachers. “If one were to monetize the cost to students of classroom digital distractions over the span of a four-year college degree program, the cost of those distractions might easily run in the tens of thousands of dollars”, says McCoy.
