2026 BEA Lifetime Achievement in Scholarship Presented to Shuhua Zhou, Ph.D.
Washington, D.C. – Shuhua Zhou, City University of Hong Kong, has been awarded the 2026 Broadcast Education Association (BEA) Lifetime Achievement in Scholarship Award.
Dr. Shuhua Zhou is a Chair Professor in the Department of Media and Communication at City University of Hong Kong. He previously served as the Leonard H. Goldenson Professor in Radio and Television Journalism at the Missouri School of Journalism and was a professor and associate dean for graduate studies at the University of Alabama. He is the Editor of BEA’s Journal of Broadcasting & Electronic Media, an Associate Editor of Communication & Society, and a Senior Editor of Computers in Human Behavior.
Dr. Zhou currently serves as Vice President of the Asian-Pacific Communication Alliance (2018–2026) and is a former President of the Chinese Communication Association (2017–2019). In recognition of his professional work as an anchor and director of the English News program at GDTV, he was named one of the 100 Best TV Hosts. His primary research focuses on television news and human cognition of mediated messages.
BEA’s Lifetime Achievement in Scholarship recognizes significant contributions to research and scholarship involving broadcast and electronic media. Recipients are evidenced by related extensive publication in books and leading journals, for at least twenty years. Dr. Zhou will be honored at BEA’s annual convention at the Las Vegas Convention Center during a ceremony and reception on Friday, April 17. The LAS will be awarded to Dr. Zhou during his formal presentation on Saturday, April 18 titled, “From Walter Cronkite to AI Anchors: Perception, Attention and Credibility of News.”
