Melissa Lee Price, Zayed University

Most people who know me call me Missy, and I’m originally from Columbia, South Carolina, USA. Prior to becoming an academic I owned a media production company, Mystery Productions in South Carolina and New York. I moved to the United Kingdom in 1998 and hold both USA and UK citizenship. For the past five years I’ve been working with universities in Eastern Europe and the Arab world focusing on curriculum development in multimedia. I’m currently a Professor in the College of Communication and Media Sciences at Zayed University, Dubai, UAE.

During my time as Professor of New Media at Staffordshire University in the UK I encouraged my colleagues and students to submit panels, posters, papers, and multimedia work to the BEA Convention/Festival. I’m proud to say that my students did extremely well with 30 students winning awards in the Festival and six students winning paper competitions and/or presenting posters. Last year, my first in the UAE, I encouraged a colleague to fly to Las Vegas and attend BEA. This year, hopefully, four of us will have panels accepted so we can make the trip.

One of the reasons that I wish to represent District 8 on the BEA Board of Directors is that I want to work with international members to increase the international presence at BEA. This includes having international media professionals on panels that don’t just focus on ‘international’ issues but on ‘issues’ from an international perspective. I also want to strongly encourage more international students to submit work to the Festival of Media Arts as well as submit academic papers/posters.

I know that I can represent the needs and interests of the international BEA members and I ask again for your support and request that you vote for me to represent District 8 on the BEA Board of Directors.

Thank you,
Melissa Lee Price
