Service Learning & Community Engagement Showcase

The Service Learning & Community Engagement Division offers two $250 awards for exemplary Community-Engaged Teaching and Learning Projects at BEA’s annual convention in Las Vegas

Submission Deadline: December 1, 2025

Instead of a traditional paper competition, the Service Learning & Community Engagement division sponsors a Showcase of Service Learning projects so that we can share ideas, assignments, and experiences. This year, we will be awarding two people $250 each for projects that demonstrate exemplary Community-Engaged Teaching and Learning.

Projects will be judged on how the educator practices community-engaged teaching and learning by going beyond classroom experiences to connect theory and practice for students, collaborating with communities to design, implement, and evaluate research solutions to solve problems, and enabling students to reflect critically on their experiences while investing in their own education.

To be included in the Showcase, you must submit the following:

• A description of your Service Learning/Civic Engagement project, including details about the project, the course and the clients/community the project served.
• A paragraph explaining how this project impacted the clients/community.
• A paragraph explaining how this project impacted students and their learning.
• Optional supplemental materials like project instructions, handouts, reflection assignments, and rubrics.

You must be present at the Showcase to be selected for an award.

Also new this year is that presenters on a division-sponsored panel can also submit those projects to the Showcase and be eligible for an award!
