BEA’s Festival of Media Arts Faculty Film & Video Competition provides an opportunity for college and university faculty to showcase their film or video production works in a wide range of categories. Films and videos must be produced by full-time faculty and completed within the past two years. Neither professional collaborations with faculty assistance nor work done substantively by students and supervised by faculty may be submitted. Works that are compiled from and/or built upon content from professional producers or productions also may not be submitted. Entries will be accepted from November 15 – December 15. Winners will be showcased during an awards ceremony at the BEA Convention in Las Vegas in April.
The Faculty Film & Video Competition accepts entries in the following categories:
FV1 – Commercial/PSA – This category includes Public Service Announcements, commercials and advertisements between 15 and 60 seconds.
FV2 – Instructional/Educational – This category is for pedagogically oriented videos designed to teach concepts, skills, techniques or procedures to potential learners.
FV3 – Mixed/Pedagogical (Teacher–Student Co-Productions) – This broad category consists of teacher–student collaborations. Entries to this category must be the substantive work of a full-time faculty member; students can only assist with the production process. Works of students supervised by a faculty member are not eligible for submission.
FV4 – Narrative – This category is intended for dramatic films and videos, but may include narrative animation.
FV5 – Promotional/Music Video – Longer form promotional videos that are produced to gain publicity, funding or awareness of a “product” be that commercial or non-profit. Music videos that promote an existing musical act and their original composition are included in this category.
Please read the Faculty Competition Rules to verify that your entry meets all eligibility requirements for submission.
