What is included with BEA institutional membership?
Membership provides complimentary membership for eligible students, a free Collegiate Media Chapter, access to publications and professional resources, and opportunities to participate in scholarships, competitions, conferences, and career programs. Institutions also receive discounted rates on job postings, sponsorships, advertising, and exhibits.
Which students qualify for free BEA membership?
All current full-time undergraduate students at an institutional member school are eligible for complimentary BEA membership. Two-year and scholastic institutional memberships also include free membership for their current students.
How do students activate their complimentary membership?
Once the institutional membership becomes active, BEA provides the institution with a unique discount code. Eligible students use that code when creating or renewing their individual BEA student membership.
Can graduate students receive complimentary membership?
Yes. Graduate degree-granting institutions may upgrade their membership for an additional $200 per year to include complimentary membership for eligible graduate students as well as undergraduate students.
Does institutional membership include individual memberships for faculty and staff?
No. Institutional membership provides organization-level benefits and eligible student memberships, but faculty and staff must purchase or renew their own individual BEA memberships to receive individual member benefits.
What opportunities are available to students at member institutions?
Students can apply for scholarships, enter creative and student-media competitions, participate in Collegiate Media Chapter activities, and pursue convention experiences such as the RAB Student Scholars and Multimedia Journalist programs. They also receive access to networking, career resources, and BEA member communications.
How are institutional membership rates and renewal dates determined?
Rates are based on the highest degree granted by the participating department, with separate options for bachelor’s, graduate degree-granting, two-year or scholastic, and federally recognized HBCU institutions. Membership follows the calendar year from January 1 through December 31, renewals begin in mid-September, and dues are not prorated.
