Professor Zizi Papacharissi, University of Illinois at Chicago, Named BEA’s Journal of Broadcasting & Electronic Media (JOBEM) Editor-select

Washington, D.C. –Zizi Papacharissi, Ph.D., University of Illinois at Chicago, has been named the Editor-select of the Broadcast Education Association’s Journal of Broadcasting & Electronic Media (JOBEM). JOBEM is the scholarly journal published quarterly by the Broadcast Education Association. Considered one of the leading publications in the Communication field, the Journal contains timely articles about new developments, trends and research in electronic media written by academicians, researchers and other electronic media professionals. “JOBEM could be the primary host of conversations on the crossroads of media present, past and future,” said Dr. Papacharissi. “Moreover, JOBEM should be a leader in shaping these conversations and providing their historical context. I look forward to reaching out to new communities of scholars, encouraging special issues on topics related to post‐convergence, and enhancing the global impact of the journal.”
Zizi Papacharissi (Ph.D. University of Texas at Austin 2000), is Professor and Head of the Communication Department at the University of Illinois-Chicago. Her work focuses on the social and political consequences of online media. Her book, A Private Sphere: Democracy in a Digital Age (Polity Press, 2010), discusses how online media redefine our understanding of public and private in late-modern democracies. She also recently edited a volume on online social networks, titled A Networked Self: Identity, Community, and Culture on Social Network Sites (Routledge, 2010). She is author of three books, and over 40 journal articles, book chapters or reviews. Dr. Papacharissi’s 3-year term as editor officially begins January 2012 and covers Volumes 56- 58. In late spring 2011 she begins working with the outgoing Editor, Dr. Susan Brinson, Auburn University, to make sure the transition is flawless.
