Each submission is reviewed by three BEA faculty members, including past book award winners. The selection process is chaired and monitored by BEA’s Senior Faculty Fellow.

Selection Criteria

• Uniqueness of the contribution to the field
• Depth of use of primary materials
• Likelihood of textbook being adopted for mass communication classes (textbooks only)
• Ability to hold reader’s attention (student’s attention for textbooks)
• Authors claims are well documented and supported
• How well does it addresses issues of diversity and inclusion
• Quality of Writing
