Selection Process

Each submission is reviewed by three BEA faculty members, including past Broadcast Historian Award winners, and BEA interest division leadership. The selection process is chaired and monitored by BEA leadership.

Selection Criteria for Book Submissions

  • Emphasis on broadcast history
  • Quality of the writing
  • Uniqueness of the contribution to the field
  • Depth of use of primary materials
  • Clear awareness of related literature in broadcast history
  • Breadth and depth of subject matter in the book
  • Importance of contribution to broadcast history
  • Importance of contribution beyond broadcast history
  • Overall demonstration of historical research skills

  • Importance of contribution to broadcast history
  • Uniqueness of the contribution to the field
  • Production value – technical and aesthetic
  • Depth of information covered in the creative work
  • Overall demonstration of the historical research skills
  • Story – structure and compelling nature
