Journal of Media Education- Call for Editor<\/strong>
\n Term: January 1, 2017-December 31, 2019<\/strong>
\nApplication Deadline: February 13, 2016<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Broadcast Education Association’s Publications Committee seeks applications for the next editor of the Journal of Media Education (JoME).\u00a0\u00a0JoME is the association\u2019s editor-reviewed journal published quarterly, but interested applicants should note that the mission of JoME will change slightly at the start of the new term. The new editor will be selected in April 2016, at the BEA Publications Committee meeting following interviews to be held on Saturday, April 16 in Las Vegas NV. The editorial term is for three years, but the Editor-Elect should be in place by May 1, 2016 in order to begin reviewing new manuscripts and learning the mechanics of the editorial position.<\/p>\n

Beginning with the January 2017 edition, the mission of JoME will change slightly to become a hybrid journal of both peer-reviewed and editor-reviewed content. The journal will continue to include editor-reviewed\u00a0pedagogical content, but\u00a0will also include\u00a0peer-reviewed\u00a0creative and pedagogical content as a regular feature.\u00a0 As a result of this change, BEA is seeking applicants to propose ideas to expand the journal to include both types of work. The new journal editor will have support from BEA\u2019s Publications Committee, staff and board of directors, but will ultimately be responsible for transitioning the journal.<\/p>\n

As a BEA publication, the Association provides financial support in the form of a modest editorial honorarium and editorial assistant stipend. The Association may also provide funding to help underwrite expenses associated with necessary design and software expenses to maintain the current publication image. (Editorial support budgets require prior approval.)<\/p>\n

  • \uf0b7 \u00a0a letter expressing interest in, and ability to, edit and produce a web-based professional journal<\/li>\n
  • \uf0b7 \u00a0an editorial statement of vision for the Journal of Media Education and its transition into a hybrid journal of both peer-reviewed and editor-reviewed content<\/li>\n
  • \uf0b7 \u00a0a full CV noting all research and publication experience<\/li>\n
  • \uf0b7 \u00a0a letter from appropriate administration officials (Department Chair and Dean) indicating institutional support for the potential editor. The editor’s home institution is expected to provide office space, and access to necessary office equipment (computer with advanced software, etc.). The editor should also receive some release time from teaching or administrative duties.)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n

    Applicants who wish to be considered should electronically submit all of the requested materials not later than February 6 and should plan to appear before the Publications Committee for an interview, if invited, on Saturday, April 16 (just before the BEA convention) in Las Vegas.
