BAYLISS FOUNDATION
AWARDS TOTAL $25,000
July 30, 2010
Dear Foundation
Friends:
With the dog-days
of August upon us, I have good news to share with you that I
hope you will forward to your colleagues. I am pleased to announce
that the board of directors for the Bayliss Foundation has awarded
$25,000 in scholarships to 5 students at colleges and universities
nationwide. Individual and corporate donations helped to make
these awards possible this year since we did not host the Bayliss
Radio Roast.
We are proud
to be an
important underwriter of new industry talent in John Bayliss'
name. John Bayliss was a fervent mentor to young people entering
the field and remembered by his colleagues as an innovative,
problem-solving leader.
Since 1985,
the board of directors has selected over 345 exceptional students
as Bayliss Broadcasters. These ambitious young people were selected
to receive the Bayliss Radio Scholarship because of their academic
achievement and extracurricular radio activities, their passion
for radio and their desire to contribute to the overall advancement
of the radio industry.
This year's
recipients are pursuing a wide spectrum of industry goals ranging
from programming, new technology, sales and creative to announcing
and station management. Good news the industry can celebrate!
The colleges and universities represented are:
Five Towns College, Dix Hills, NY
Ithaca College, Ithaca, NY
San Francisco State University, San Francisco, CA
Seton Hall University, South Orange, NJ
Syracuse University, Syracuse, NY |
Bayliss Broadcasters:
Thurmon Henry
Jessica Brandt
Dallas Osborn
Caitlin Duffy
Marina Zarya |
Industry support
over the years has made possible our efforts to help talented
students become broadcast professionals. One former scholarship
recipient Steven Portnoy is now a successful news correspondent
with ABC Radio News in Washington, DC. We can not thank our fellow
broadcasters enough for sharing this vision with us!
Your tax-deductible
gift is a genuine investment in the future of radio. Financial
contributions help to ensure that the next generation of enthusiastic
radio students will receive the mentoring and guidance they deserve.
